Thursday, February 20, 2025 - A ‘mentally unstable’ man identified as Ibekwe Augustine James, has allegedly m8rdered his sister, Chinonso Nwabali James and her twin babies in Abia State.
The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at
Umuokogbuo, at Ndagbo Community, in Afara of Umuahia North Local Government
Area of the state.
According to a source, a family member caught Ibekwe dragging the
lifeless body of his sister and raised an alarm.
It was gathered that the suspect immediately took to his heels,
abandoning the body, as the youths approached the scene.
“This morning, the youths alongside some men of the Nigeria Police went
into the bush in search of him as he ran away from his compound immediately the
youths saw him dump his late sister’s body. And up till now, the young man has
not been found,” the source narrated.
While searching for the suspect and the missing twins, the youths
discovered the dismembered bodies of the children in different shallow graves.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, who
confirmed the incident on Wednesday said the matter was reported at Central
Police Station, Umuahia, by a family member.
According to the PPRO, the family member reported that on the fateful
day, he saw his cousin, who is mentally unstable, dragging the lifeless body of
Chinomso Nwabali James.
“The alarm raised by the family member caused the suspect to abandon the
victim’s body and flee.”
Chinaka said that officers visited the scene of the incident, and the
woman’s body was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where a doctor
confirmed her d3ad.
“While searching for the suspect and the missing twins at 2 am, the
dismembered bodies of the children were found in different shallow graves
within the community,” said DSP Chinaka.
She added that the bodies of the three victims have been deposited at
the mortuary in the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where an autopsy will be
conducted.
She further stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing
suspect.
