Labourer remanded for allegedly stabbing man to death in Ondo



Thursday, February 27, 2025 -A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State has ordered the remand of a labourer, Oladipo Akintade in the Olokuta Custodial Centre for allegedly stabbing one Dole Akinrinola to d3ath with a knife. 

 The police brought the 33-year-old defendant before Magistrate R.I Adelakin on a one-count charge bordering on m3rder.

Akintade was alleged to have stabbed the 45-year-old Akinrinola in his left rib, during a fight, although the cause of the quarrel was not disclosed in court.

The police prosecutor, Folashade Adeyemi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 10, 2025, at Omifunfun within the Ondo State Magisterial District, around 6pm.

Adeyemi said the defendant confronted the deceased over an undisclosed issue, which led to a quarrel and in the process, the defendant allegedly used a knife to stab him. 

The deceased was, however, rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival by a medical doctor on duty.

According to Adeyemi, the offence committed is contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006. 

The charge read, “That you, Oladipo Akintade, on January 10, 2025, at about 6:00pm, in Omifunfun Camp in the Ondo Magisterial District, did unlawfully k!ll one Dole Akinrinola ‘m’ aged 45, by st@bbing him with a knife on his left side rib, which resulted in his d3ath."

The plea of the defendant was not taken. 

Adeyemi prayed the court to remand the defendant to any correctional centre in the state pending the outcome of legal advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPP. 

Magistrate Adelakin, while granting the prosecutor’s request, remanded the defendant to the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending the outcome of the legal advice from the DPP. 

Adelakin also adjourned the case till March 27, 2025, for mention.
