Monday, February 24, 2025 -The Benin Zonal office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, has secured the conviction of a 35-year-old, Fasa Sandra, for trafficking persons for prostitution.
The Zonal Commander of the Federal Government agency, Ganiu Alao
Aganran, discussed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin City.
Aganran said the suspect was sentenced to two years imprisonment with an
option of N250,000 fine by a Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State,
for exportation of persons for prostitution and tampering with evidence and
witness in 2021.
He said the convict was arrested alongside, Omengor Chinonso, 26, who
later jumped bail and didn’t appear in the court for judgement.
The offence committed by the duo was punishable under sections 14 (b)
and 34 of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and
Administration Act, 2015.
Justice F. A. Olubanjo, however, reserved ruling on Omengor Chinonso,
pending when she is brought back to the court.
Agunran vowed that the agency would ensure that Chinonso is brought back
to the court to face justice.
