Wednesday, February 12, 2025 - A former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has given conditions for the Nigerian government to negotiate with bandits.
Ahmad said the Nigerian government should have a firm strategy before
negotiating with repentant bandits.
Posting on X, the former presidential aide said repentant bandits should
not be allowed to walk freely.
According to Ahmad, they should be drafted to fight against terrorists.
He wrote: “If we must negotiate with bandits after all the pain,
suffering, and destruction they have inflicted on innocent people, then the
authorities must have a clear and firm strategy.
“All surrendered bandits should not just walk free, they should be
drafted to fight against those still terrorizing our communities.
“With strict conditions, they will be held fully accountable if anything
goes wrong again and their surrender will be void.
“No second chances. If they are truly remorseful, let them prove it by
helping to end the terror they once contributed to.”
Lately, the Nigerian military has continued its onslaught against
bandits in the Northern part of the country.
The onslaught had led to the capture and elimination of several
notorious bandit leaders.
Meanwhile, dreaded bandit leader, Bello Turji is currently on the run
from his hideout in Zamfara State following the military onslaught.
