Friday, January 17, 2025 - The Rivers State government has confirmed five cases of cholera and nine associated de@ths in an outbreak affecting the Akuku-Toru and Andoni Local Government Areas.
According to the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, the confirmed
cases were recorded in Akuku-Toru, while nine fatalities were reported across
both LGAs.
In response, the state’s health ministry has activated emergency
response teams in the affected areas to contain the outbreak and prevent its
spread. Sensitization campaigns have also been launched to educate residents on
preventive measures and the importance of hygiene.
Dr. Oreh urged residents to cooperate with health teams, maintain proper
sanitation, and ensure the consumption of safe water. She advised those
experiencing symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, or dehydration to seek
medical attention immediately.
The government emphasized its commitment to safeguarding public health
and assured citizens that updates on the outbreak would be provided as the
situation evolves. Residents in the affected communities are encouraged to
remain vigilant and report any suspected cases to health authorities promptly.
