Wednesday, January 15, 2025 - Operatives of the Kebbi State Police Command have rejected a bribe of N1 million offered by suspects linked to the notorious Lakurawa bandits.
This was contained in a statement by the command’s Public Relations
Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
Abubakar identified the three suspects as Umaru Garba (53) of Dangandu
village, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji Mamman (51) of Maimaichi village, both in Arewa
Local Government Area, and Usman Muhammadu (50) of Bakaramba village in Argungu
Local Government Area.
According to him, the suspects conspired to offer a bribe of N1,060,000
to the lead investigator, saying the bribe was intended to compromise the
investigation and prosecution of a banditry case involving suspected Lakurawa
terrorists operating in northern Kebbi State.
He added that the attempted bribe took place at the premises of the
State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, in Gwadangaji, Birnin Kebbi.
The PPRO said the suspects were immediately arrested, and investigations
are ongoing, stressing that they will be charged to court upon the conclusion
of the investigation, Abubakar stated.
Speaking on the development, the state Commissioner of Police, Bello
Sani, applauded the detectives for their integrity and professionalism. He
urged other officers to emulate their commitment to upholding justice.
Sani restated the command’s resolve to intensify efforts in combating banditry and other crimes to ensure socio-economic development in Kebbi State.
