Tuesday, January 21, 2025 -Towards enhancing its Technical Education Sector in the state, the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), a World Bank supported initiative, has begun rehabilitation of all 8 Technical Colleges to meet up with International Standard.
The State Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Dapo
Okubadejo, and his Agriculture Counterpart, Bolu Owotomo, made this known,
during a site visitation to the Government Science and Technical College, Ijebu
Ode.
Okubadejo, who doubles as the Chairman of the OGSTEP Project Steering
Committee, said the initiative was aimed at standardising technical and
vocational education and equip students with industry-relevant skills through
modern machinery and tools.
He added that the government’s interest was to keep developing both the
state’s physical infrastructure and human capital across various education
sub-sectors, by introducing modern equipment, smart classrooms, while aiming to
enable students compete globally and provide a competent workforce for the
industrial needs of the state.
The Commissioner revealed that the inspection of rehabilitation works
would continue across the other seven technical colleges in the state, noting
that OGSTEP’s scope extends beyond education, as well as grants in supporting
agricultural and business-enabling environment sectors, while commending the
quality and pace of the rehabilitation works.
In her reaction, the OGSTEP Project Coordinator, Mrs Mosun Owo Odusi,
said the state government has invested in upskill teachers and fostering
partnerships with local Industries in ensuring that students and teachers gain
practical knowledge with experience.
She added that the upgraded facilities would not only benefit students,
but also serve as a platform for industries to train and upgrade their
workforce.
