Saturday, January 4, 2025 - Veteran Nigerian
rapper, Anthonia Yetunde Alabi, aka Sasha P, has expressed concerns over the
obsession with wealth in the country.
The 41-year-old lamented that Nigerians now use wealth to determine
people’s value and treat rich folks like deities.
She explained that money does not determine a person’s character;
rather, it amplifies it.
She remarked that responding to an affront in the country typically
begins with a question of someone’s net worth, which she finds unbecoming.
On her X handle, Sasha P wrote, “I think we lost the plot when people
began to determine your value by how much money you have. People worship money
in Nigeria, and any apparent show of wealth, you get treated like some deity
when, in actual fact, you can have so much money and still be far from wisdom!
“Money doesn’t automatically make you cool or good company to keep. It
doesn’t excuse you from accountability or bestow you with emotional
intelligence. It is an amplifier….your character will still be your destiny!
“So unbecoming when the first retort to an affront is “how much do you
even have?’ Your self-worth should not be tied to your possessions.”
