Monday, January 20, 2025 - A High Court in Minna has sentenced Abubakar Muhammad-Buba to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of killing his father.
The court arraigned Abubakar on October 9, 2023, on charges of murder,
theft, and others.
The Korokpa police unit in Chanchaga village arrested Muhammad-Buba when
he came to collect money from the sale of his father’s land.
According to the case that was presented in court, Muhammad-Buba stabbed
his father with a knife, causing him to die, and then dismembered his body,
hiding the remains in a bush before throwing them near the Tagwai Dam water
source in Chanchaga.
Afterward, Muhammad-Buba went to inform his father’s close associate and
the head of the state’s mineral extraction association, Naje Mohammed SD Mambo,
that his father had been kidnapped and demanded a ransom.
After he received the ransom money, Muhammad-Buba further informed his
father’s associate that the kidnappers had released his father, but he was
injured and needed treatment at Gwagwalada hospital.
Later, Mambo discovered that Muhammad-Buba had been lying to him, which
prompted him to report to the police.
The presiding judge, Mohammed S.A. Mohammed, sentenced Muhammad-Buba to
life imprisonment because the prosecution established in court that he was the
one who killed his father.
Mohammed stated that given the gravity of the murder committed by Muhammad-Buba, he could have given him the death penalty, but in a show of leniency, he opted for life imprisonment instead.
