
Sunday, January 12, 2025 - Suspected terrorists of the Lakurawa group have killed four people, including three employees of a leading telecommunications firm, Airtel in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The attack occurred on 10 January 2025, around 8:47 pm at a construction
site in Gumki, as the three victims were reportedly working on the installation
of a surveillance mast for the Nigeria Immigration Service when the attackers
struck. The fourth victim, whose identity remains unknown, was also killed
during the attack.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the
incident, stating, “Four people lost their lives in the attack, including three
staff of Airtel and one local resident.”
Following the attack, the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello
M. Sani, and the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kebbi State
Command, CIS Muhammad Bashir Lawali, visited the scene. The victims’ bodies
were evacuated to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.
CP Sani has since deployed additional tactical teams to the area with
instructions to track and neutralize the perpetrators.
He also held discussions with community members, urging them to support
security agencies with intelligence to enhance their operations.
This attack comes less than a week after the same group killed two
police officers in the state, heightening concerns over the increasing spate of
violence in the region.
