
Friday, January 10, 2025 - The police in Pakistan have arrested two teenage sisters for the murder of their father by setting him on fire in retaliation for years of sexual abuse.
The
incident took place in the city of Gujranwala on January 1, and after the ok
was carried out, their father succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Tuesday
this week.
Rizwan
Tariq, a senior police official in the city, told newsmen that, “The girls said
that they decided amongst themselves to find a ‘permanent solution.'”
Tariq
further explained that the sisters used petrol from a motorcycle, igniting
their father while he was still asleep.
He also
said that the step-sisters revealed that their father had been raping their
eldest sister for a year now while making attempts to assault the younger
sibling twice.
He added
that their mothers, both married to the man, were aware of the abuse but were
uninformed of the sisters’ revenge plan.
The
man’s name has not been disclosed; this is to protect the identities of the
girls, who have different maternal backgrounds.
Police
have also detained one mother, while the other is still under investigation.
“We
expect to present them before the court in a few days, as soon as we finish the
investigation,” Tariq concluded.
Domestic
violence and family-related Sexual abuse is very high in Pakistan, according to
the UN which has tried funding programs to educate households and the boy
child, especially against carrying out violence against women.
