President TINUBU approves establishment of federal university in Southern Kaduna

Tuesday, December 31, 2024 - President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given his consent to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna, according to Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Shettima disclosed this during a condolence visit to the Kukah family following the passing of Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom and a family member of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto. Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima’s spokesman, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, December 30.

“With Senator Katung and the member of the House of Representatives, we have reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and he has consented to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna,” Shettima stated.

He further revealed ongoing discussions to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, as part of efforts to enhance the region's development.

Shettima highlighted the administration’s commitment to Southern Kaduna, pointing to the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as a demonstration of the President’s attention to the region’s security needs. “Be rest assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the people of Kaduna and the people of Southern Kaduna at heart,” he said.

Shettima also praised Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his inclusive governance approach. “Government is about linking all parts to have a sense of belonging,” he noted.

The Vice President assured that the Federal Government, in collaboration with the state government, would focus on improving road infrastructure and ensuring development in Southern Kaduna.

Bishop Kukah, speaking on behalf of the Kukah family, expressed his gratitude to Shettima for the visit and acknowledged the challenges faced by the region.

“I want to thank you on behalf of this family. Thank you for being with us. You can see the nature of the place in which we live. It took you around three and a half hours to get here. The road is largely broken. I know you will remain a friend of this Ikulu nation and a friend of this community. We are honoured to have you,” he said.
