Thursday, December 19, 2024 - The Ogun State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the death of a yet-to-be-identified bus driver involved in an accident on the Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Isheri Olofin, Lagos.
The command’s public relations officer, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed
the accident to DAILY POST, said: “A fatal motor accident occurred on December
17, 2024, on the Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Isheri
Olofin, Lagos.
“The incident involved a Toyota Hiace bus, registered 14C24 DT, operated
by an unidentified deceased driver, and a Howo Sino truck, registration number
AAB 440 XC, driven by Yahaya Yakubu of BHN Ltd.
“The crash occurred when the driver of the Howo Sino truck lost control
in moving traffic, colliding with the Toyota Hiace bus from behind while also
heading toward another unknown truck ahead.”
According to Odutola, police swiftly arrived at the scene and, in
collaboration with the unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Ojodu,
took the injured victims to the Lagos State Emergency Clinic at Old Toll Gate,
Ojota, for medical attention.
The corpse was then delivered to Divine Hospital Mortuary in Ibafo for
preservation and autopsy.
Odutola disclosed that while the recovery of the vehicles was in
progress, a Mack truck with registration number T 257 LA, loaded with iron
coils and driven by an unidentified driver, lost control and collided with an
unregistered Volkswagen, KJA 436 YD.
She added that the Mack truck overturned and fell on the Howo Sino
truck, causing the iron coils to spill and severely damaging a Nissan Urvan
ambulance owned by FRSC.
She stated that the police, alongside other agencies, have restored the
traffic flow, and efforts are ongoing to locate the drivers who fled the scene.
