Monday, November 25, 2024 -Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has broken his silence on Vinicius Jr's Ballon d'Or snub.
The Brazilian was expected to win the award until
the morning of the ceremony, when it was revealed that Man
City's Rodri will take home the Ballon d'Or.
Upon hearing the news, neither Perez, Vinicius Jr,
or any of Madrid's squad travelled to Paris for the event.
Shortly after the official announcement, Vinicius
Jr made his feelings known, taking to X to say: 'I'll do it 10 times if I
have to. They're not ready.'
The winger played 49 games for club and
country in 2023-24, scoring 26 goals and providing 11 assists, as well as
winning three trophies, the UEFA Champions League, La Liga and
the Supercopa de Espana.
Speaking at General Assembly on Sunday,Perez
labelled Vinicius Jr the best player in the world and addressed the adversity
the 24-year-old has faced in his career.
'We are proud of a player like Vinicius. For us,
and for most football fans, the best player in the world,' Perez said, as
per Mundo Deportivo.
'Dear Vini, I want you to know that Real Madrid is
proud of you, of everything you have had to endure at many times, unfairly. All
this has made you the player you are.'
Perez also commented on Kylian Mbappe's blockbuster
summer move from Paris Saint-Germain, which has seen him net six times in 12
league games so far for Madrid
'The arrival of Mbappe has been one of the events
in the world of football.
As I said that day, he has been making an effort
that many cannot even imagine. And he has already helped us win the first
title: the European Super Cup,' he said.
Lastly, the 77-year-old tipped his hat to retired
players Toni Kroos and Joselu, who both left Real Madrid in the summer.
'It will be very difficult to see someone like
Kroos again, one of the best in our history and one of the greatest legends of
world football,' he said.
'His tribute on the 25th of May was moving, unforgettable. Dear Toni,
thank you for everything you have given us. You know that this will always be
your home.
'I also want to remember Joselu, who took us to the final of the 15th.
Thank you, dear Joselu.'
