Wednesday, October 09, 2024 - A woman has been arrested for the alleged horrific torture of her 12-year-old stepdaughter, Amarachi Emmanuel, in Nekede, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.
A journalist and activist based in the state, Chidiebube Okeoman, who confirmed the incident in a series of Facebook posts on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, said the woman subjected the minor to abuse for eating food without her permission.
The victim and her siblings lost their mother before their father
married the suspect, said to be a teacher.
The victim said her stepmother allegedly used a knife, a cutlass and
other harmful objects to torture her.
She also said that the suspect pushed her into a fire.
According to the journalist, the victim has been admitted to a hospital
for immediate medical treatment.
“Just left Umuguma General Hospital in Owerri
and I am happy to announce that little Amarachi Emmanuel, 12, whose step mother
disfigured for eating food without her permission has been admitted,” he
wrote.
"This happened after several hours
of delay. Please thank my elder brother, Dr Uche Ewelike who intervened and
made sure that the poor girl was given a bed space.
"Thank you also, my brother Ikenga John Mayor Mbubaudele, the Deputy Director, Social
welfare, Owerri municipal council who raced down to assist me.
“Before living, I went to a nearby
supermarket and got the little girl and her sister all they needed. This girl
and her sister are out of school for two years now.”
