Monday, October 14, 2024 - Nigerians on X are defending Libyan authorities following the poor treatment the Super Eagles of Nigeria have been subjected to in the North African country.
Recall that the men's national football team travelled to Libya on
Sunday, October 13, and the plane was supposed to take them to
Benghazi. However, their flight was diverted to Al Abraq airport, which is
two hours away from their destination.
The Nigerian players and their agents were kept inside the airport's arrival hall for several hours and were not allowed to leave.
As several Super Eagles players took to X to complain that they have been in
the airport in Libya for over 13 hours without food, some Nigerians took to X
to defend Libyan authorities, while others condemned them.
Those defending them pointed out that the
Libyan national football team had been subjected to a similar treatment in
Nigeria and the Libyan authorities had vowed to retaliate.
Meanwhile, Libyans have referred to the treatment of the Super Eagles
players by their authorities as "tit-for-tat".
