Tuesday, October 22, 2024 –The Lagos State Attorney General and
Commissioner for Justice, Mr Lawal Pedro (SAN), announced on Monday, October
21, that the toxicology report and other forensic analyses conducted in
the United States on the late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly
known as Mohbad, have been received.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Ministry of Justice
Conference Room in Alausa, Ikeja, Pedro confirmed that the autopsy report is
now with the Lagos State Pathologist and the coroner magistrate. The briefing
was part of a series of events marking his first year in office and an upcoming
strategic stakeholders' meeting.
Pedro acknowledged delays in the investigation, attributing them to the
time required for a thorough forensic process. "On the Mohbad case, yes, I
agree there has been a delay, and the delay is caused by time taken for
investigation," he stated.
He further explained that comprehensive investigative procedures,
including forensic analysis and toxicology, are essential for ensuring that any
case brought to court has the necessary evidence to secure a conviction.
"Forensic, analysis, toxicology, all these are part of the
investigation. Full-proof investigation that can lead at least to conviction in
a case that is presented before the courts," Pedro said.
The Attorney General also clarified that the toxicology examination had
to be conducted in the United States due to the destruction of the Lagos DNA
and Forensic Centre during the #EndSARS protests of October 2020.
