Katsina police thwart bandit attacks, rescue 6 victims


Monday, October 21, 2024 -Men of the Katsina State Police Command have foiled a bandit attack and rescued six kidnap victims in the Unguwar Batsaka area of Jibia town.

The spokesperson of the command,  ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, who disclosed this in a statement said that on Saturday, October 19, 2024, a distress call was received at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters regarding a group of armed bandits attacking Unguwar Batsaka.

The assailants were reportedly armed with dangerous weapons and firing indiscriminately while attempting to abduct residents.

“Swiftly, the DPO Jibia mobilised a team of operatives in collaboration with the military, members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC), and vigilantes to the scene, where they engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel that lasted about an hour, forcing the bandits to flee the scene with various degrees of bullet injuries,” he said.

The team successfully rescued 6 kidnapped victims and was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention due to injuries sustained as a result of the bandits attack. Regrettably, one of the victims, simply identified as Rabe Mai Shayi, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment’’

’Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects. Further development will be communicated in due course."

‘’We urge anyone with useful information on suspected criminal activities to promptly report at the nearest police station for timely and decisive action."
