
Wednesday, October 16, 2024 - Almost 100 people have died with more
than 50 hospitalised with some of them in critical condition after a fuel-ladened tanker crashed in Majiya village of
Taura local government area of Jigawa state at about 12.30am on Wednesday,
October 16.
The villagers were said to have been scooping fuel from the fallen tanker when the explosion occurred.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Lawal Shiisu Adams, said;
“Today (Wednesday) a petrol tanker from Port Harcourt going to Nguru in Yobe state reached Majiya village of Taura local government area at around 12:30am the driver lost control at Majiya and falls down.
The content in the tanker flooded gutters and drainages in
village. The villagers started fetching the fuel where the the petrol going in
to flame.
As a result 95 people confirmed d!ed and 50 have been hospitalised
receiving treatment”.
