The defendants, Balogun, 20, and Ojo, 24,
both without fixed addresses, pleaded not guilty to the stealing charge.
Prosecutor Insp. Olasunkanmi Bamikole
informed the court that the alleged offense occurred on October 12 at
approximately 11:30 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
He stated that the defendants stole the 20 tubers of yam from
a farm belonging to the complainant, Mr. Balogun Ali.
According to Bamikole, the defendants were apprehended by
security guards and subsequently handed over to the police.
He noted that the alleged offense violates Section 302 of the
Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021, and requested an adjournment to allow time
to study the case file and gather witnesses.
In response, defense counsel Mr. Timi
Omotosho urged the court to grant bail to his clients, assuring the court that
they would not abscond.
Chief Magistrate Mrs. Taiwo Ajibade granted
bail to the defendants in the amount of N5,000 each, with one surety in a
similar sum.
She adjourned the case until November 21
for mention.
