Thursday, October 24, 2024 -A Chief Magistates’ Court in Akure on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 15-year old female secondary school student, Sandra Usman, for allegedly st@bbing her schoolmate, Habib Salau, aged 17, to d@ath.
Chief Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi, who did not take the plea of
the young offender, ordered her remand at the Ondo State Juvenile Home, in
Akure, pending advice from the office of the Directorate of Public
Prosecutions, DPP.
Sandra, an SS3 student of Akoko Anglican Grammar School, Arigidi Akoko,
is facing trial for allegedly st@bbing the Salau with a knife during a scuffle
between them outside the premises of their school, after school hours.
The defendant was brought on a two-count charge of conspiracy and
murder.
Police Prosecutor, Josephine Awana, had earlier informed the court that
the young offender and one other at large, on October 3, at about 3:30 pm
at Imo, Arigidi Akoko, conspired to commit murder.
She alleged that Sandra killed Salau by st@bbing him with a knife
during a fight between them.
“Sandra accused the deceased of accosting her on the way home
after a misunderstanding between them,” the prosecutor told the court.
"It resulted in a fight and the defendant said someone gave her a
knife and ordered her to stab the deceased in the neck.”
The offences, according to the prosecution, contravene Sections 124 and
319(1) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
Awana urged the court to remand the offender at the correctional
facility, pending the issuance of advice from the DPP.
Magistrate
Odenusi-Fadeyi granted the prosecution’s request to remand the young offender
and adjourned the case till February 2, 2025, for mention.
