Saturday, September 28, 2024 -The Federal Government has said that it is committed to improving the well-being of its retirees and creating a conducive atmosphere for them to live decent lives after retirement.
The Director-General of the Bureau of Public
Service Reform (BPSR), Mr. Dasuki Arabi, said this on Friday in Gombe during
the 2024 Pre-Retirement Training Programme for retired/retiring officers of
selected Federal Parastatals in the North East Zone.
Arabi stated that the FG remains dedicated
to improving the well-being of retirees through training and other reforms.
According to him, the bureau is arranging a
national conference, which, hopefully, will be chaired by President Bola
Tinubu, to address pension issues and reform the system to enhance the lives of
retirees.
The DG also noted that the pre-retirement
training programme for retiring officers of federal parastatals is one of the
bureau’s cardinal programmes.
He further stated that the essence of the
training is to prepare retiring officers for the future and ensure that the
quality of their lives does not deteriorate.
Arabi added that equipping them with the
right knowledge and experience for achieving a sustainable life in retirement
aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at improving the
lives of retirees.
“The most important exercise that an
employee can embark on is to prepare for retirement.
“Retirement, which marks another phase in a
person’s life, is an exercise worth planning for.
“Many people have had very bad experiences
in their retirement life, possibly due to their failure to adequately plan for
it.
“Government, in its wisdom, thought it wise
to impart some basic knowledge on how to manage life in retirement and properly
utilize their retirement benefits.
“Due to the immense benefits derived from
the first edition, the training has been institutionalized and is conducted
annually by the bureau for retirees from federal parastatals,” he said.
