Sunday, September 8, 2024 -In a continued effort to tackle irregular migration, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) deported no fewer than 61 foreign nationals from the country in August 2024.
This development comes alongside the
facilitation of 8,352 Visas on Arrival, as part of the country’s new visa
policy aimed at promoting smoother entry processes for travellers.
According to a report released by the NIS,
the deportation was part of ongoing measures to address the issue of irregular
migration within Nigeria. The report stated, "The NIS eased out 61 foreign
nationals to address irregular migration. The new Visa Policy facilitated 8,352
Visas on Arrival."
This is not the first time the NIS has
taken such steps. Between 2020 and 2022, at least 70 foreign nationals were
deported from the country, reinforcing Nigeria's firm stance on controlling
irregular migration while ensuring lawful entry through its new visa regime.
