Monday, August 26, 2024-A women's college soccer game descended into chaos on Sunday, August 25 as two opponents sought with one another following a tackle.
Rutgers travelled to UMass for an afternoon
match and chaos ensued after the Scarlet Knights' Gia Girman fouled an opponent
from behind in the 55th minute.
The UMass player's teammate, Ashley Lamond, tried to take the free kick quickly
but she and Girman got tangled up as the former attempted to grab the ball.
From there, Lamond shoved Girman before
punches were thrown in both directions and Girman threw her opponent to the
ground.
Girman continued punching Lamond while she
was atop of her, while Lamond tugged on her opponent's hair in an ugly scene.
As the fight occurred, Players from both
sides rushed over to separate the pair.
Afterwards, both Girman and Lamond were sent off and both sides had to play
with 10 players for the final 35 minutes of the game.
The hosts ultimately won 1-0 after an
81st-minute goal from Bella Recinos.
