Friday, August 30, 2024 -A devastating fire erupted in the early hours of Friday, August 30, at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road, in the Ogba area of Lagos. The blaze, which started around 2:20 am, severely damaged part of a two-story residential building within the complex.
Initial investigations by the Lagos State
Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) indicate that the fire originated from an
electrical surge in the children's room of Flat 5, Block 21. The fire
completely consumed the children’s bedroom, destroying properties worth
millions of naira.
Dr Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary
of LASEMA, reported that the quick intervention of the agency's response teams,
along with the Nigerian Police Force and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service,
successfully contained the fire, preventing further spread. Fortunately, there
were no casualties or injuries.
Emergency responders have remained at the
scene to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.
