Friday, July 5, 2024 - Two men were on Friday, arraigned in a Wuse Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a woman of N 2.1 million.
The police charged the duo of Henry Alobo and Edward David, who reside
in Abuja, with criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred
against them.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr E. A. Nnamani, told the court that the
complainant, Chidinma Ubochi, reported the matter at the Garki Police Station,
Abuja.
He said sometime in February, the defendants conspired and deceived the
complainant into collecting the sum of N 2,150,000 from her, promising to
secure a Qatar and Israel working visa for her, but failed.
He alleged that the defendants instead converted the money into their
own personal use.
NAN reports that the prosecutor said during police investigations, the
defendants admitted to committing the offence.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 312 of
the Penal Code.
The Judge, Chioma Amanwachi, admitted the defendants to bail with one
surety each.
She said the sureties must be residing within the court jurisdiction and
their addresses be verified by the court.
The Judge said the International passport of the sureties must be
tendered before the court.
She adjourned the case until August 19, for a hearing.
