Saturday, July 13, 2024 -Nine victims of the mining pit collapse in Galadima-Kogo, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State have been laid to rest.
The six Muslim victims were buried at the
Unguwan Daji Muslim cemetery following funeral prayers at the palace of the
Emir of Minna on Wednesday evening, while the three Christian victims were
interred at Christian cemeteries in Minna, the state capital.
Suleiman Isah, an elder brother to one of
the victims, who said he could not attend due to ill health, described the
event as a grievous moment for the families involved.

Ishaku Kuta, the chairman of Shiroro Local Government Area, called on the state
and the federal governments to ensure that all mining companies operating in
the local government obtained the necessary permits and implement precautionary
measures to prevent future tragedies.
The
chairman also noted that some victims remained trapped in the pit.
