Tuesday, July 2, 2024 -The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) has busted a styrofoam warehouse at Ojuwoye market in the Mushin area of the state.
Disclosing this on social media on
Tuesday, July 2, the state Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources,
Tokunbo Wahab, said the owner of the warehouse brought the banned styrofoam to
the market in the early hours of Tuesday.
"Based on intelligence
gathering, the operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps
(KAI) #lagescofficial discovered a styrofoam warehouse at Ojuwoye Market in
Mushin. The owner brought in the banned styrofoam to market in the early hours
of today.
The products have been confiscated and
taken to the KAI office in Oshodi for incineration. The Lagos state government
#followlasg is reiterating its commitment to ensuring a healthy, cleaner, and
safer environment for all Lagosians."
The Lagos State Government had in January
2024 announced a ban on the usage and distribution of Styrofoam and other
single-use plastics in the state with immediate effect. The Commissioner who
announced the ban said the decision was reached following the menace the
single-use plastics especially the non-biodegradable Styrofoam were causing on
the environment.
