Thursday, June 27, 2024 Vice-President Kashim Shettima has asserted that President Bola Tinubu is not acting against the interests of Northern Nigeria.
Speaking on Wednesday, June 26, in Kano
during a condolence visit from a Federal Government delegation led by the Chief
of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, following the death of his
mother-in-law, Hajiya Maryam Abubakar, Shettima praised Tinubu’s positive
actions toward the region.
He highlighted the appointment of key
figures from the North, including the two Ministers of Defence, the Chief of
Defence Staff, and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, as evidence
of the president’s dedication to the region’s development.
Shettima urged Nigerians to support
Tinubu’s initiatives to elevate the country, emphasizing that effective
governance transcends political party lines. He stressed that national unity
and progress should take precedence over party differences.
Citing the support he received from the
Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples
Party (NNPP), during his bereavement, Shettima noted that the country has moved
beyond politics to focus on governance.
He called for collective efforts to achieve
national greatness, emphasizing that political party affiliations should not
serve as a basis for division and conflict. The vice-president appealed for
unity and cooperation among all political parties, reiterating that ensuring
Nigeria’s greatness is a shared responsibility.
