Tuesday, June 11, 2024 -The Super Eagles came into the game needing a win after drawing to South Africa days ago in Uyo and scored after just 25 minutes with Club Brugge's Raphael Onyedika giving the Super Eagles the advantage when he shot just inside the box.
But Cheetahs of Benin coached by former Nigerian coach Gernot
Rohr, equalized in the 37th minute from Jodei Dossou after a defensive error
from the Super Eagles.
Just before the halftime, Steve Mounie scored again for Benin.
In the second half, despite pressure from Nigeria, the Cheetahs
defended very well to record one of the biggest wins in football.
The result leaves Nigeria 5th in the Group C qualification slot
for the 2026 World Cup.
