Three on trial over N72.8m theft from Adamawa company

-Three persons are currently facing trial in Adamawa State over N72,818 million belonging to a company in Ganye Local Government Area.

The three are on arraignment before the Chief Magistrate I in Yola for allegedly stealing the money.

The defendants: Abdulrashed Waziri, 36; Richard Moses, 42; and Uche Sunday, 32 were arraigned before the court on charges of theft, misappropriation and criminal breach of trust.

Abdulrashed and the two other defendants allegedly made away with the N72,818 million belonging to the company they work for: Saro Agro-Science Limited, located in the Ganye LGA.

According to the prosecution, Abdulrashed, a storekeeper; Richard, a market sales representative and Uche, a van sales representative conspired and perpetrated the crime.

The prosecuting police officer told the court that one Olajide Oladeji who is the regional business head of the company reported the matter to the police in Adamawa.

ASP Zakka said Olajide had reported that on September 25, 2023, the Location Manager supervising the Ganye Office, Caleb Akinteye had discovered that the affected staff stole the company’s money.

He said it was established that the defendants had sold products of the company and realised N48 million which was not paid into the company’s account, and that after the management had audited its stocks at the warehouse, it found out that over N24 million worth of stocks were missing, which brings the total to N72.818 million.

On their arraignment before the judge, Muhammed Buba, all the defendants pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
